There is more to pruning than understanding how to make
proper cuts. You also need to know how the plant will respond and what it will
look like in the future. This should be dictated by the plant’s natural growth
habit, growth rate, flowering season, height, and spread. All plants react to
pruning cuts in essentially the same way; as long as you learn the general
rules, you’ll be able to predict how your cuts will impact future growth.
