Master in Community Development student Matthew Parker serves as Executive Director of the Boston-based Union of Minority Neighborhoods (UMN). Matthew recently received a 2021 Platinum Sustainability Award from the University of New Hampshire, recognizing his outreach helping leaders and communities of color to organize and address threats to civil liberty and his work helping to end discriminatory policies and practices that limit access to political, economic, and environmental justice.
Matthew has worked at UMN since 2016 and in 2021 became executive director of the organization. His capstone project at the Carsey School focused on identifying and addressing policies and practices that have impacted men of color from being able to attain/maintain housing because of mass incarceration, inequitable wages, and prejudiced policies/practices.
