The Department of Education is a community of scholars, educators and
students who strive to cultivate a robust and civil public discourse
that engages citizens and residents in the policies, practices, and
institutions that impact their lives through the broad field of
Education. In this work, the humanities, sciences and social sciences
are at the very the heart of the matter. The Department of Education's
mission is to engage in teaching, research, and engagement that advances
education through a range of interdisciplinary studies that include:
literacy education in local and international schools and community
settings; public-private partnerships that support a strong network of
schools, hospitals, museums, cultural institutions and libraries that
engage the public in humanities, science and social science activities;
Studies in ethics, economic equity, education and the law, and
transitional justice.
