During this session Extension specialists will outline recommended best
practices for farms preparing to open for pick your own operations
beginning in the spring of 2020. Mary Choate,
Food Safety Field Specialist for UNHCE will present guidance on how
farmers and customers can minimize risk of COVID-19 spread. Dr. Marvin Pritts,
Professor of Plant Science at Cornell University, will outline best
practices focused on the flow, management and education of customers as
they visit the farm, as well as educating employees about the important
roles they will play in keeping customers and farm staff safe. Dr Mark Hoffman From NC State Extension will share strategies they have been using in North Carolina. Time will
be allotted at during the later portion of the program for open
discussion, Q&A, and for participants to share their personal
experiences related to preparations for the coming PYO season.
